This award winning, innovative, and collaborative mobile office project in Carnation, Washington was built by Olson Kundig Architects for our friend and frequent collaborator, designer and branding savant Lou Maxon. This truly one of a kind, private, bespoke "short line" railroad features a custom mobile two-story home office known as the Maxon Studio. Completed in November 2022, the Maxon Railway provides a secluded workspace which can detach from the main residence and move via train tracks into the lush surrounding forest.
On assignment again for Trains Magazine, we joined our friend Lou Maxon for an unforgettable day with the wonderful crew of the Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad aboard their Polson Logging Company No. 70 engine. The legendary No. 70 is a 2-8-2 built in Philadelphia by Baldwin in 1922.
